Historic and technical information
Denomination :     76.2mm M1900 Origin :       ( Putilov)

Historic context :

In 1900, one of the two Russian guns manufacturers delivered the '76.2 mm fieldgun M1900'. This was the first Russian gun to be equipped with a recoil recuperation system, but this one was rather special : the barrel was linked to a sliding beam that could move on the tail. An hydraulic brake strengthened by rubber rings (Engelhardt process) was placed inside the tail.

This gun also had a quick action breech similar to the Schneider famous ones, and later received a shield during the Russia - Japan war to which it took part.

This gun performances had nothing enthusiasming, so that it was replaced 2 years after its birth by the much better 76.2 mm Mle 1902 designed in collaboration with the Etablissements Schneider in Le Creusot (France). Anyhow, the model 1900 firldguns stayed in stock in several reserve units, and were massively mobilized in 1914.
