Historic and technical information
Denomination :     7.5cm M 15 GebK Origin :       ( Skoda)

Historic context :

In 1909, Skoda made its mountain gun 7cm M09 GebK adopted at the side of the State arsenals 7cm M08 GebK, both equipped with a modern recoil recuperation system and having similar performances. The company developped the concept and the performances further and produced a 7.5cm M13 GebK for a Chinese order (later requisitionned by Austria in 1914), before it finally proposed in 1915 of its chefs d'oeuvre : the very good '7.5 cm GebK M15' mountain howitzer.

This weapon was equipped with modern components including a hydro-spring recoil recuperation system, and it fired a more powerful shell at a longer distance compared to its predecessors. Finally leaving the bronze material to History, its barrel was made in steel with a central tube and a long thick sleeve. Its excellent manoeuvrability was one of the major factors of its success : it was dismountable into 6 separate loads adapted to the mule transport. Its impressive 50 degrees maximum elevation angle as well as its large protecting shield gave the final touch to its reputation of one of the best mountain artillery weapon ever made at this time.

During WW1, the 7.5cm Geb M15 was also used as assault infantry artillery by the German StormTruppen. This gun was in service in the German, Hungarian, Austrian, Czech and Italian armies in the 1930's, and it participated to the WW2 first years.
