Nomenclature : '7.7 cm FK 16 Flak'

Origin : Germany

The specifications of the new German fieldgun 7.7cm FK 16 were making it a good candidate for an anti-aircraft mission, particularly thanks to the substantial increase of the initial speed (600 m/s) compared to the old 7.7cm FK 96 n/A (460 m/s), obtained the increase of the tube length from 29 to 35 calibres.

The recuperator system was redesigned to take into consideration the higher elevation and the change of position of the trunnions (to the rear). The new fieldgun carriage, taken from the 10.5 cm lFH02 fieldgun allowed an increase elevation range to 38 degrees, still insufficient for anti-aircraft uses. Therefore, the'7.7cm FK 16 Flak' was mounted on a hybrid assembly made of a section of the French 75mm fieldgun carriage and elevation system mounted on the classical 10.5cm lFH 02 carriage, increasing the maximum elevation range to 60 degrees.
